Hadley
In the Hadley readings I felt that I could relate to the students In the book. Everyone has anxiety while talking in front of others. This is a huge barrier from me that I need to overcome. I'm lucky I lived through speech in high school. The language is very scary to learn. I think it is the fear of being wrong. Also, in the readings it talked about the use of technology to learn the language and they found an increase with the students who used computers to learn the language vs the ones who tried without technology. I love using the language programs because I can explore them in the privacy of my own home and only I know if I'm wrong.

The only time that I have speaking anxiety is when it's Ojibwe. It is difficult for me because I feel I should be further ahead than I am. I liked what Brian said when he said language is always being spoken with mistakes. If I mess up my words in English, it's no big deal but Ojibwe I feel embarrassed.
ReplyDeleteOjibweMovies.com is the best thing since sliced bread (I think that is the saying). I feel that many non-speakers have a way to learn the language in that private setting along with family-no judgement.
Amanda,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you language is scary to learn and it is the fear of being wrong and sounding wrong is also a big issue for me.
